| Discover Citrus County!!!
I invite you to come and discover one of the most beautiful communities on the Nature Coast. There are numerous golf courses, great fishing, and abundant photo opportunities of wildlife and nature. The crime rate is low and the people are friendly. Citrus County has many parks that appeal to all types of outdoor enthusiasts. Local attractions include The Homosassa Wildlife Park, The Yulee Sugarmill Ruins, Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Preserve, Crystal River Archeological Site, The Withlacoochee State Forest, and Fort Cooper State Park. Citrus County has numerous fresh water lakes and Lake Tsala Apopka is one of the largest chain-of-lakes in Florida. There are 7 rivers that flow to the gulf. Water is truly our most valuable asset and the natural springs in Kings Bay pump over 500 million gallons of fresh water every day into the Crystal River. This sparkling clear 72 degree (year round) fresh water flows from the springs to the Gulf of Mexico. Both the Crystal River and the Homosassa River are known for the yearly Manatee migrations to the springs. The Manatees play in the Homosassa River and there is abundant wildlife in the area for great photographic opportunities! Fresh and saltwater fishing is spectacular. Bass, Trout, Cobia, Redfish, and Grouper are the most popular catches. The local commercial fishermen bring in abundant crabs and shrimp every day (in season). Boaters may enjoy the protected fresh waters of the rivers or venture into the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The rivers are easy to navigate for smaller craft. Yachts may also navigate the rivers (but be careful, the water is shallow). Citrus County is known for its excellent SCUBA diving. The springs of the rivers provide a memorable deep diving experience for both the amature and professional diver. You can explore deep caves in the natural spring waters. Come for a vacation.....and stay for a lifetime!
